Steampunk festival

18th August 2018

Steampunk Tasmania had their first Festival in 2016 in with many Steampunkers travelling from all over the State and Interstate to attend the event. The 2017 Steampunk Festival was held in George Town on the 24th June and was bigger and better than expected. The highlight of the 2017 Festival was the Guiness World Record Attempt, to revisit all of the action from the day, watch the videos below.

Utility Kinetic Insect (UKI)

Stand by to be wowed in 2018! Steampunk Tasmania is bringing Utility Kinetic Insect - UKI - to George Town. She's a  magnificent mutant kinetic insect created by Melbourne sculptor, Callan Morgan and the Make Mob team. UKI featured at White Night, Melbourne 2018, and Burning Man, Nevada in 2017. She is a mechanical giant, beautifully articulated, who gracefully moves and glows with light and music. Catch a glimpse of UKI here

Maurice's Symphony - A Steampunk FIlm

Steampunk Tasmania Festival 2018 is also excited to announce another first - screenings of Australia's own steampunk film, created in South Australia. Maurice's Symphony is a sensitive tale of a deaf factory worker who is harassed and bullied, but through the actions of others, has his hearing restored.

Steampunk Grand Fashion Parade

And of course, we will be holding our Grand Fashion Parade of Steampunk . The Parade is open to ladies, gentlemen and children, and entrants will be judged on demonstrated skill in artistic interpretation of the Steampunk genre, and one’s creative recycling, re-using and re-purposing of ‘stuff’. This was very popular last year, so we've increased the stakes!! We have four celebrity judges and cash prizes!

Steampunk fashion is a huge part of the genre, it allows individuals to show a creative flare in form of style. If you are after some outfit inspiration for the Grand Fashion Parade in George Town Tasmania, here are some ideas for you.
